FIREtalk Conference - Research on FIRE!

The FIREtalk Conference is part of the FIREtalk project of the Baden-Württemberg Stiftung and organised by members of FIRE - the Network for Female International REsearch.

We invite members of the network, in particular our FIRE Young Academics, to present their research. Selected papers will be published in a peer-reviewed open access journal, following the conference. Details to be provided later. We have received research papers from a variety of backgrounds, reflecting the interdisciplinary membership of the FIRE network.

The conference will run in the BarCamp format. The detailed program will be determined in the line-up at the beginning of each conference day. You can find the list of peer-reviewed contributions (please select guest account) for your convenience. There you will also find the agenda on the days of the Research-on-FIRE conference. Some general information on the barcamp format.

Basic BarCamp Rules

Rule #1 You actively contribute=you can attend.
Rule #2 You blog about the BarCamp using the hashtag #FIRE4Res.
Rule #3 To present, you have to submit your topic and name etc. and it will be assigned a slot during the line-up.
Rule #4 Only three word intros.
Rule #5 As many presentations at a time as facilities allow for.
Rule #6 No pre-scheduled presentations, no tourists.
Rule #7 Presentations will go on as long as the session allows or until they run into another presentation slot.

  • Tue, 26th August Day 1 - Research Presentations

  • Thu, 28th August Day 3 - Workshops and company visits; workshop length ½ day

Costs: Participation in the conference is free. However, we kindly ask you to donate 10€/10$/30000TSh to the School of St. Jude, Arusha, Tanzania.

Criteria for participation:

  1. You are either
  • dual partner,
  • a student, a researcher or a professor at DHBW or at other universities for applied sciences (HAW) in Baden-Württemberg.
  • a peer-reviewed presenter (your registration is complete),
  1. There are still spots left (there is a limit at approx. 50 additional participants).

Please register for the conference until 28th July 2025. We work on a first come, first served policy for the 50 spots left.

Dual partners of DHBW are welcome to bring a topic for presentation and join the line up for the Industry Day (Day2).
Are you a dual partner, reachable by public transport within ca. ½ hour from DHBW Mannheim campus (Colbitzallee) and would you like to offer a tour of your company on Thursday, 28th of August? Please submit your offer in the registration form below.

Registered participants who expressed interest will get information on available workshops and company visits in August.

Important Dates

  • DONE 20th March: Deadline for Submission of Applications (2000 characters).
  • DONE 27th March: Conference Committee decides on selection and communicates the result
  • DONE 9th April: If selected, you need to confirm your spot by 9 April, including a copy of your donation to the School of St Jude. Details in the communication to successful applicants.
  • In progress 10th-17th April: Send out of the Invitation letters for your visa application
  • 28th July: Registration deadline
  • 11th August: The 1st version of your paper has to be submitted by 11th August (2 weeks before the conference). The submission link will be provided with the result of the abstract review.
  • 25th-29th August: FIREtalk Conference, Workshop & Tutorial Day, incl. arrival and departure days

How to get there
Frankfurt International Airport is conveniently located and just a half hour train ride from Mannheim. More detailed information will be provided closer to the conference date.

Accommodation: We have blocked a number of rooms until after Easter at hotels close the venue for self-funded FIRE members. We will inform the participants in their acceptance email and letter. Participants can of course also choose other accommodation on their own budget.

Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM

The Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM supports the international exchange of students and vocationally qualified people. Since 2001, it has enabled more than 25,000 young people from Baden-Württemberg to gain experience abroad and allowed scholarship holders from other countries to visit Baden-Württemberg. Approximately 1,500 young people receive a Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM each year. www.bw-stipendium.de

Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM for University Students – BWS plus

With the Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM for University Students – BWS plus, the Baden-Württemberg Stiftung supports innovative joint projects between universities from Baden-Württemberg and their international partners. The programme is endowed with approximately 1.2 million euros annually. Since 2011, more than 100 BWS plus projects have been supported at universities in Baden-Württemberg. FIRE is a project financed within the framework of the scholarship program of the Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM for university students - BWS plus. Aim of the program is to establish and build on new relationships with foreign universities and intensify existing contacts for the long term. FIRE is hosted at DHBW.
